I think I still need to be enthused, barring a flurry of late signings the team will look and feel very similar to last season except where we have had to plug gaps for those who think the sun shines brighter elsewhere.

Exactly my thoughts after watching my first & only friendly.
We have in effect just replaced the departed, fair enough Cave looks a class player and Swailies & Buchanan look a good partnership.
I know there's still time some 3 weeks but we haven't really brought anybody in that's an improvement on last season.
Thought the young tall lad that came on in look decent but is he any different to Simon Todd.
Still think we need some quality brought in to compete every week in the league.
Not complaining or making early judgments but just my initial impressions.

Thoroughly enjoyed this match. My first friendly this season and I was impressed. Alexander looks like a different player. He seems to have lost weight, his fitness looks good and, most important, he has discovered where the net is.
The centre back pairing look solid and Cave looks to be a great addition. That number 14 who came on for us seemed decent but was throwing around some hefty tackles for a while there. Possible future "red mist" candidate IMO, but worth keeping.
Passing the ball around we looked comfortable and creative. We reverted to the old punt and chase for a while, and it was completely ineffective.
Comfortable win in the end. Turnbull's goal was a blinder.
Trevor Benjamin was a passenger for them when he came on, absolute waste of a shirt. He looked like Emile Heskey's slower, less co-ordinated twin brother.
As a side point, thought big Tony had a shocker as Ref. Utter mare.
Optimism for the season definitely on the rise.

Was no 6 Buchanan.
If so we got 2 really big strong centre backs..
Also who was in nets for us seemed like a canny keeper..

Buchanan had a great game at Spennymoor and adds much needed height to the back line. No 14 (who is he? Kris Wilkinson?) put in some great tackles and looks to be a good "one for the future" .
Word of advice boy: Never be intimidated by anyone! and dont think he will be!

I think Mick is keeping his powder dry in case someone of proven ability crops up, as the season gets closer players will get desparate and i think Mick will capitalise on it.

A selection of photos from the Blyth v Bedlington game can be found on the Official website at http://blythspartansafc.co.uk/new_php/?p=4510
This was the dive; oops sorry, I mean crunching tackle that led to Bedlington being awarded a penalty?
Confused? Yes me too!

Aye the second 45 minutes was worth the entrance fee alone.
There have been some bad performances at CP over the years but that was hilarious, watching him aimlessly wandering around as the game went on around him.
Mind we were convinced he'd never touched the ball but the camera never lies.
And to think we ever considered him playing for us.

In fairness Cave isn't just a replacement for Brackstone but an improvement.
But yeah we've mainly just replaced what we've lost but have made little progress in actually improving the squad. And when you're asking people to cough up more at the turnstiles you have to be offering something better. Not many will accept another season like last. This club needs a massive boost right now as we're in danger of just all becoming apathetic.

Benjamin was a footballing coma it was hard work watching him wandering aimlessly, showing little effort, and trying to itimidate Buchanan, Buchanan is better than that and gave as good as he got. Close shave not signing him. Also seems to be carrying alot of weight at the minute so for Terriers fans theres hope.(But not a lot)
