Post Post subject: Behind closed doors friendly
The club can announce that an additional pre-season friendly has been arranged.

On Sunday 1st August the club will travel to face new Assistant Manager Chris Swailes’ former side Hamilton Academical in what our hosts are classing as a ‘behind closed doors’ training match. Sadly this friendly will not be open to supporters of either side to attend, this is due to the excessive cost to Hamilton for policing a game involving an SPL side.

Blyth Spartans did investigate the possibility of the game taking place at Croft Park on the Saturday, even offering to pay for the visitors’ transport costs, but the South Lanarkshire club want to test their newly installed pitch prior to the start of the season.

With the season not kicking off until the 14 August 2010, the club are hoping to arrange another friendly on the 7 August, details of this fixture will appear here on the club’s website as soon as we have confirmation of the details

There are loads of free vantage points outside New Douglas Park where you easily see the game without any obstructions.

Always thought New Douglas Park had a horrible high stand behind the goal but im informed that this is a records office which is incorporated in to it to maximise revenue. Would have been a nice one to go to.

It only has two stands. One behind the goal and the main stand. Last time I was there (2 seasons ago) you could see the action from the Morrisons Superstore behind the goal where there is nothing or outside the ground on the grass banking opposite the main stand.
